Increase Your Fitness for Cycling and Improve Performance on the Bike

Fitness for Cycling

You need to have a reasonable level of fitness for cycling, be it competitive or recreational.

The general definition of physical fitness is simply being in shape or having good health. One of the best ways to get fit and stay that way is through cycling, be it on the road, on the trail, or on the trainer.

Physical fitness offers many benefits including better health, greater strength, more flexibility, increased energy, improved appearance, positive attitude and mood, and many more.

Physical fitness consists of 5 basic components and 5 minor components...

Major Components

  • Cardio-respiratory Endurance

  • Muscular Strength

  • Muscular Endurance

  • Flexibility

  • Body composition

Minor Components

  • Balance

  • Coordination

  • Agility

  • Power

  • Reaction Time

While cycling meets or exceeds the necessary development of each of these components, there are a few additional exercises needed to provide overall balanced fitness.

In the following pages, I’ll show you how cycling can increase your level of fitness while keeping things fun. I’ll also give you ideas on steps to take to improve your fitness and better performance on the bike.
