The benefits of physical fitness are numerous and include better health, greater strength, more flexibility, increased energy, improved appearance, and a more positive attitude and mood.

Better Health
Regular physical exercise increases both the size and strength of the heart so that it can pump more blood with less effort. A more efficient heart translates to a lower pulse and lower blood pressure which can increase lifespan. The circulatory system is also improved with regular exercise because of increased blood volume means more oxygen to the muscles.

Greater Strength
Daily life requires some form of strength. If you do not work your muscles they will deteriorate. Additionally, increasing strength by gaining muscle and reducing fat help to increase your metabolism so that it is easier to burn calories, even while not exercising. Greater strength and more muscle mass will help protect your body from injury. Participating in weight bearing exercise also increases bone density and strength.

More Flexibility
Flexibility is an important key to staying injury free. Regular exercise, whether actively stretching or just completing aerobic activity, helps to keep the muscles more pliable. A more flexible muscle is also a stronger muscle.

Increased Energy
Regular exercise not only requires energy, it helps to provide the body with more energy throughout the day. This effect is related to the increased metabolism associated with a fitter body.

Improved Appearance
Physical activity burns fat and tones muscles helping you to look fit and healthy. A healthy physically active person typically will also have great skin tone and look less fatigued.

Positive Attitude & Mood
Some of the greatest benefits of physical fitness are not physical. Exercise is a great stress reliever and less stress means a healthier heart. Physical activity releases endorphins that make you feel a great sense of accomplishment. You can expect improved confidence and self-esteem from the completion of workouts and also from the physical benefits.

These are some of the more prominent benefits of physical fitness. Everyone can and should participate in a fitness program to improve their quality of life.
